Mohaiemen, Naeem, Bengal Photography’s Reality Quest (in Bengali), 2025.

Initially, social reality photography in the the subcontinent was controlled by Western photographers who, after brief visits, captured images of poverty, refugees, and factories, creating stereotypes about the subcontinent. However with local photographers taking charge of representing their own social realities a significant shift occurred.  Organizations like Tropical, Drik, and Map, along with influential photographers such as Shahidul Alam and Selim Pal, empowered the local community to capture their own stories.
